History

The Coeur d Alene Art Association was founded in 1961 by Ruth Willoughby and Node Meyers with thirteen original members and incorporated on the 26th of July, 1971 as a 501 (c) 7 non-profit corporation under the laws of the state of Idaho.

Over the years the Association has established a scholarship program for Art Students in the area and developed a Board of Directors to govern its functions. The community has grown developing a significant arts presence in North Idaho but even while keeping abreast of the changes the Association continues to maintain the flavor of a caring, grass-roots community organization.

The mission and goals remain the same; a community organization dedicated to the arts and educating and encouraging others to participate in, or simply enjoy viewing the many diverse local arts available.

The Association accepts adult artists of any level and have beginner to professional artists involved. The monthly meetings include demonstrations, critiques, competitions, networking and education. As more experienced artists share their experience, techniques and knowledge with newer artists members experience the joy of making art while learning at their own pace.

The Association offers members the opportunity to exhibit at the CDA Art Association Annual Showcase at the Fairgrounds, Art on the Green, and other local venues arranged annually, and is open to all persons interested in the arts. It offers full membership for the artists, Associate membership for the supporter and a prestigious Art Patron opportunity.

The Coeur d Alene Art Association operates on a small budget and is managed by a volunteer board and committee persons. The challenge is to stay on course towards their mission while attending to growing opportunities as well as the time consuming aspect of basic operations in leadership, publicity, community education projects and increasing services to members.

Members from the original organization originated many local art alliances, including Art on the Green, and the Association still maintains its unique historical booth there every year. A treasured history and a desire to continue to preserve the ideals of the original founders has resulted in a group that welcomes all to the world of the arts. The Coeur d Alene Art Association exemplifies the motto "Art is For Everyone".
